1 — What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They are widely used to make sites work, remember your preferences, and provide information about how a site is being used.
REF-TOWN also uses localStorage — a browser storage mechanism similar to cookies — to store your preferences locally on your device. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is not sent to our servers with every request.
2 — Cookies We Use
Essential
These are necessary for the site to work as expected. They do not require your consent.
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
reftown-theme |
Stores your light or dark mode preference | localStorage | Until cleared |
reftown-cookie-consent |
Stores cookie consent choice, such as accepted, rejected, or customised preferences | localStorage | Until cleared |
Analytics (optional)
REF-TOWN does not currently use Google Analytics. If analytics tools are enabled in the future, they may collect aggregated or pseudonymised information about how visitors use the site, such as pages visited, time on site, and general navigation patterns. Analytics cookies or similar tracking technologies will only be used after you have consented.
If and when we enable analytics, we will update this table with specific cookie names and durations.
Marketing
We do not currently use marketing or advertising cookies.
3 — Which Cookies Require Consent
| Type | Consent required? |
|---|---|
| Essential / preference storage | No — only used to provide requested site functionality or remember your choices |
| Analytics | Yes — only used after consent |
| Marketing | Not currently used |
4 — Managing Your Preferences
When you first visit REF-TOWN, a banner asks for your cookie preference. You can accept all optional cookies, reject non-essential cookies, or manage your preferences. You can reopen these choices at any time through the Cookie Settings link in the footer.
You can also update your choice directly here:
If you withdraw consent, REF-TOWN will stop using non-essential cookies or similar technologies from that point forward, where technically possible.
5 — Browser Settings
You can manage or delete cookies and localStorage data directly through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
Note that clearing essential storage (such as reftown-theme) will reset your preferences and the cookie banner will reappear on your next visit. Browser controls are separate from REF-TOWN's own cookie preferences.
6 — Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example when we add new tools or change our approach. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
