Scrutiny Index

The Scrutiny Index measures how often a referee's decisions are likely to attract attention, discussion, or review.

What it captures

Frequency of high-impact decisions across a season
Penalty involvement relative to league average
Situations likely to trigger review or public discussion
Late-game interventions — decisions made after minute 80
Match visibility patterns across the season

How to interpret

Low
Low-profile matches with minimal intervention. Decisions rarely attract scrutiny.
Medium
Moderate involvement in key decisions. Some matches draw attention.
High
Frequent high-impact or attention-driving decisions across the season.

Important note

The Scrutiny Index reflects decision visibility and involvement, not correctness or performance quality.

Methodology note

The Scrutiny Index is derived from a proprietary model that tracks how frequently a referee is involved in high-impact or attention-driving decisions across matches.
